Back to Steiner Schools in Australia
The school has their own web site at http://www.milkwood.nt.edu.au/
Milkwood Steiner school opened in Feb 2004 in the converted Nightcliff Scout
Hall in Nightcliff, Darwin. It has arisen out of a vibrant, enthusiastic
community of committed families who want Steiner education for their children.
The reverence and respect felt by Steiner teachers for the special qualities of
each stage of childhood shapes the school environment, the way the children are
spoken to, the materials used, the activities undertaken and the approach to
learning at each developmental stage. Teachers are dedicated to creating a
genuine love of learning within each child. By freely using art, craft, music
and language in conjunction with the teaching of academics, learning becomes a
living, creative process. The academic subjects are enriched and enlivened in a
way the meets the developmental stages of the children, offering both sensory
and intellectual nourishment.

Darwin is a small friendly multicultural tropical city. It attracts peoples from all over the world, and has a large Indigenous population (28% of the NT population). Darwin is surrounded by the sea and tropical woodlands. Close by are the wonderful Litchfield and Kakadu National Parks, with wide-ranging wetlands, rainforests, waterfalls and swimming spots.
