Hi there,
I am a mother of a gorgeous 14 month old girl & am very interested in Steiner education & would be interested in corresponding with like-minded parents. I am considering starting my daughter (& I!) at a Steiner playgroup this year but we live just under an hour's drive from the nearest Steiner school. I am wondering how we will handle commuting & if any other parents commute & how they, & the children of course, cope!
Kind regards,
Jodi

Hello. I'm Tanja and currently live on the Darling Downs in Queensland. We are researching a move to an area in New South Wales (around Uki or Murwillumbah) to allow our three children, aged 7, 6 and 5 to attend a Waldorf/Steiner school. We would love to hear of anyone residing in areas around Steiner schools in NSW.  We require good soil to enable us to continue growing nutritionally enhanced natural food for our family. Look forward to hearing from anyone with information on these areas.

School Waiting Lists – A Growing Problem for transferring Families
I would like to propose a forum for parents to help ease the problem.
It seems to me that there must be other parents like us, who have their children in a Steiner School and would like to transfer to another (for reasons that have nothing to do with the school itself). Understandably they will not take their children out of the school until places in their chosen school become available. There’s the problem. Someone has to make the first move! How do we free things up?
Many Steiner schools do seem to have a policy of giving preference to transfers from other Steiner schools which certainly does help. However, I propose a forum where parents can discuss their plans with others so they can get a much clearer picture of where and when places might become available. Of course the schools themselves control the waiting lists and this would not be affected. For those families concerned about privacy the forum would still provide useful information but those who are happy to provide contact details could do so for private discussions.
This is a proposition which is very open to ideas but one which I would like to see happen as soon as possible. I would love to hear from as many as possible.

I am a father of 3 children who all go to the Mount Barker Waldorf School here in South Australia, my oldest Ethan has just turned 13 and I plan to go down to Tassie later this year on a motorcycle tour holiday with him. As a bit of a Rite of Passage type trip for him. I have been down there earlier this year for work so I know my way around a bit but could anybody suggest some things that we might be able to do or see. I want to make it a hard week or two of some extreme things and lots of nature things too, maybe even some volunteering of some sort to really strength his heart and make him appreciative of his life. We will be roughing it with the accommodation too, mainly sleeping in swags.
I would just love to make it a trip he will never forget with a lot of learning's along the way.
If anybody has any ideas for things to do or offers of places to stay I would be greatly appreciative.

Hi. My name is Sue and I've been teaching music, mainly singing, at a Steiner School in New Zealand for the last two and a bit years. In June I am moving to Melbourne and I wonder if there is anyone who would like their house sat or needs a flatmate? Ideally you would have a fenced property, a piano and no cats so you could accommodate me and my elegant and very gentle and friendly retired greyhound Harry. Any ideas?

Hi, I would like to hear from anyone with direct experience of the Steiner School program. I believe in the Steiner School philosopy and have a young girl who will be starting kindergarten soon. I worry that the choices I make now will effect her school prospects over the course of her life and so am eager to give all options my full consideration.

As we don't have a Steiner Secondary School near us, I am especially eager to hear how Steiner educated children have coped with assimilation into the mainstream at any level, including university.
Thank you.

My name is Kristie Mullens and I am the proud parent of a beautiful four year old crystal child.
Last year we were told our little boy was advanced for his age and would get bored in a "normal" school. My husband and I have been homeschooling him and as we are Pagan we don't necessarily believe in the rigid routines some homeschoolers advise.
We would love to learn more about homeschooling using the Steiner method and would like to hear from anyone who is using it. We intend on sending Torren to a Steiner highschool when the time comes.

Hello,

My name is Gabriele Bucher, I’m german and an anthroposophical speech-formation-therapist. We (Thomas, medical doctor, Sophie, 6 year old Kindergarden pupil and me) are looking for a new life-perspective somewhere in the world. Thomas was bossed around in several clinics here in beautiful and narrow switzerland, where we live for 4 ½ years now. For me as regards work it is o.k. but I can see no developing perspective for me personally. We hestitate to move back to germany, we had good reasons to leave it and nothing has become better since then.

Australia is far away and it is easy to have illusions that everything will be better there. We have a close relative who is handicapped and would maybe join us, she lives independent with support in Berlin, where we come from originally. How is life for handicapped people in Australia?

Since I’m an art-therapist with speech as a medium I would like to get also involved in art-projects. I did recitals with eurythmy, Jazz and Lyric programs, and was a singer-songwriter, too. My 2 attempts to teach waldorf classes (music and choir for class 9-12 in 1994 and english for grade 2 and 3 last September/October) failed, my contact is rather individual and I think art and therapy is my way to give. Thomas is experienced in holistic medicine, anthoposophical, too, but not only. He practises neural-therapy, craniosacral ostheopathy and acupunture. In classical homeopathy he also did basical research. Sophie is in her 3rd Kindergarden now, she liked it last year in the Steiner KG, but we couldn’t manage with the daycare, the days I’m working. Now she is in the International school of Zug and speaks already a good bit of english.

We would love to hear about life in general, professional possibilities and anthroposophical relationships for independent minds in Australia.

Thank you

Gabriele

Hello
My name is Jenny and I have a wonderful 6 year old daughter.  We live in Elwood, Victoria.  We are part of the St Kilda Steiner Preschool Community.  I am interested in talking to anyone who may be interested in boarding in our home during 2007 for a small contribution towards bills & be prepared to do some after school / evening child minding . I have a small single room available.  The house is fairly old but in a great location near the beach, shops and transport with a decent sized backyard - great for BBQ's.  If you are involved in a Steiner community in Australia or overseas and have some child minding / teaching experience I would love to hear from you to talk further. A car licence would be necessary as school pickups may be involved.
Please contact Jenny on

Hi

I have a daughter in Mount Martha Primary School on Mornington Peninsula which is a standard school. We want to move her to Mornington park Primary which offers a Steiner stream simply because she is not happy where she is and is a very creative child, so we are hoping the move will help her to start enjoying her schooling - rather than seeing it as a chore!

Would love to hear form anyone who knows these schools or who has had similar experience with an academically bright child who is doing well but is just not 'happy' and thinks Steiner may be the answer.

Best wisehs

Hello!

I have been involved with music and music theatre all my life, and with music and music theatre in Steiner schools and communities since 1991. I taught music and music theatre at the Orana School in Canberra from 1991 - 1993, and again from 1997 - 2000; and at the Mt. Barker Waldorf School from

1994 - 1996. I direct the Wayfarers (originally called Waldorf Wayfarers, now called Wayfarers Australia) - this is basically a choir which consists of anyone, child or adult, who loves singing, and is keen to be a part of choral workshops and performances. I move around Australia giving workshops, and encourage those interested to be a part of usually a once-a-year choral tour of somewhere in Australia or overseas. So far we have toured NSW, Tasmania, central and northern Australia, and Europe twice. In October this year we will be touring New Zealand; next year we will be performing in Perth and Adelaide in July. We sing a wide range of pieces, from European mediaeval, Renaissance, baroque, classical and romantic, and contemporary compositions from Australia and elsewhere, as well as folk songs from many cultures, rounds etc. I encourage musical literacy and the growth of aural comprehension. We most often sing in 3 or 4 parts unaccompanied; occasionally we add recorders, strings, percussion, piano or whatever; occasionally we add dance, mime, acting, speech, puppetry etc.

I have published two books of songs (Songs of the Tree of Life, vol.1, for young children up to about class 3; and volume 2 for older primary children, high school and community choirs etc. Each of the books comes with 2 CD's.

I am keen to hear from anyone interested in my giving a workshop where you live, or in having books, CD's etc. Once I have got to know people in a certain area, and know that their interest is ongoing, I donate a class set of both books and CD's.

I look forward to hearing from anyone interested in any of this. I have found that in many Steiner schools beautiful music is enjoyed, but is often not very adventurous or not quite accurate, while in other school systems the music taught, while often being well taught, is often crassly commercial, lacking subtlety and depth. I see my job as bringing these two worlds together ie imparting a high level of musicality to music of depth through inspirational creativity.

Hi my name is Louise and I have a son who has a physical disability. He is in a Steiner school at the moment, in year 6.Next year he is to start high school. At present he does not have a wheelchair that would enable him to attend the local state school and we are not keen for him to go there anyway. What we are looking for is someone to mentor us in providing a Waldorf curriculum for him to do at home. My four children have all been to a Steiner school for their primary years, so we have some understanding of Steiner education. If anyone could assist please contact us. Thankyou. rockloh@bigpond.com 7th May 2006
