Leaning Tree Community School is a warm, friendly and harmonious school where our love of learning takes us on adventures both inside and outside the classroom. We are inspired by Steiner education and draw on a variety of educational styles. Nature and the outdoors is a central part of our school. We value and nurture the younger years and cherish parental and family involvement in all aspects of the school. We respect others; their rights, ideas and belongings; just as we respect our own bodies and worth. We are tolerant and accepting, we understand our own emotions and show compassion and empathy towards others' in a gentle manner. Leaning Tree Community School is governed professionally and ethically and maintains a high educational standard.

The Leaning Tree is a greater Geraldton icon. People have asked why we have chosen our name. This tale will help to explain.
“The Leaning Tree began life as a tiny seed in the fertile soil of the Greenough Flats. Pure winter rains and the bright Geraldton sunshine fed and warmed the seed which emerged as a vigorous seedling amongst the wheat and wildflowers. The seedling grew into a sturdy sapling whose roots ventured deep into the earth, drawing sustenance and anchoring the flourishing plant. The tree adapted its form, hugging the earth, as it was buffeted by the salty southerly winds. It grew to be a wise and much loved tree, home to many creatures and a little different to other trees in the Mid West. The Leaning Tree became a symbol of courage, generosity, love, patience, truth, respect and peace”. “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world – indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” The Leaning Tree Community School Committee formed in April 2004. Our vision was to work towards opening the first Community School north of Perth, for the families of the growing Mid West Region. We all knew that Geraldton had a wonderful lifestyle, the beaches, small community, great weather and most of all it was where we wanted to bring up our families. We soon discovered the only draw back from living in the Midwest was the lack of schooling options.
We were thinking of something a little different, where the whole child is nurtured, the school has a warm home like feel, a small community environment, parents play an active role, education is more project based, class sizes are small, all this in a eco friendly, maybe even a sustainable environment.
School Philosophy
Our school aims to offer a small and family-like setting. It will be non-denominational. The school endeavours to be child-centred, whilst also developing the whole child- emotionally, socially, academically and spiritually. Children will be active and democratic learners in a multi-age group setting. The school will be environmentally focussed and draw on a range of sound and effective educational philosophies. The school curriculum will follow the WA Curriculum Framework. The school will encourage parental and community involvement. Our Name The Leaning Tree is a greater Geraldton icon.
